The Philadelphia 76ers have the luxury of roster space to take a chance on a young prospect or two in the free agent market.
The Philadelphia 76ers still have open roster spots with training camp around the corner. They can have up to 20 players entering training camp and one avenue the Sixers could explore is trying to find some young talent to develop. The 76ers can sign these players to Exhibit 10 contracts that will incentivize them to sign with the Delaware Blue Coats, Philly’s G-League affiliate, to develop these players within their system.
The Sixers have already filled up to their 15 player roster capacity and have players on both two-way contract slots. They’ve also signed Christ Koumadje to an Exhibit 10 deal recently as well. There’s still two spots available and there’s three players that are 25-years-old or younger that could be potential targets that Philly could take a chance on.
Isaiah Briscoe
At 23-year-old, Isaiah Briscoe is the prime age for the Sixers to invest in. He showed promising play with the Orlando Magic last season. He averaged 3.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while converting 32.4 percent from downtown in 39 games. His tenure with the Magic was cut short when he went down with a knee injury and then the team cut him in April.
Despite the injury, Briscoe has promise has a playmaker. In his second season of college at Kentucky, he averaged 12.1 points and 4.2 assists. The tools are there for him to become a pass first point guard and below is an example of what he can be as a passer.
Now Philly is set this season at the reserve point guard spot with Raul Neto and Trey Burke, but Briscoe is someone they could develop as a long term backup behind Ben Simmons. Having him sign an Exhibit 10 and then playing with the the Delaware Blue Coats is worth it.
