I raced Philadelphia 76ers forward Mike Scott. Here’s what went down.

Some people say seeing is believing, yet somehow my whole race story with Philadelphia 76ers forward Mike Scott doesn’t feel real even a few days later. Most likely because it is a foreign occurrence in my life but, the race did take place and I was handed the loss. I know, I spoiled the ending for you.

Mike Scott collecting the win was the expected result. Despite that, Mike Scott wasn’t the only person to pick up a win on Friday, July 26. Myself, my friends, my family, fellow Hive members, my podcast, and this very site all collected a win because of the race even taking place. It gave people the joy of meeting a newly beloved member of the Sixers, exposure towards a platform for basketball content, and both for some.

Allow me to take you through my anticipation, the actual race, and the aftermath of it. I got a good enough night’s sleep, which is a rarity for me, knowing I’m racing one of my favorite NBA players. With this in mind, I headed to the track about an hour early with a few people to loosen up before dead sprinting for 100 meters. This afforded me the time to treat the day normal enough before participating in NBC Sports Philadelphia’s coverage of the race and people — including Mike Scott — started showing up.

As Mike Scott pulls up to the track, I know it is really on. After we met, he then does a short interview with Marc Farzetta and greets all the people that came out. My mindset, like his, was on the race because it started only about 15 minutes after his arrival. I was too focused on the race that during it, I did not hear any noise outside of my friend who played the starter role. As can be seen on video I predictably lose by a decisive margin, to a 6-foot-8 NBA player. I’m really proud of and confident of the showing that I had, especially given the knowledge that I’ve never ran track in my life.

The aftermath had to be the coolest part of the day. Getting interviewed again, taking pictures with everyone, seeing a meet and greet happen right in front of me, and even being gifted the very sneakers I lost in signed by Mike Scott with a personalized message. As well as knowing that we will meet again because I will live up to my side of the bet by buying him the Philly cheesesteak of his choice.

I was given the great opportunity of telling the full story on 97.5 The Fanatic at the 23 minute mark.

The ball is now in my court regarding which cheesesteak Mike Scott eats. The choice has now been passed to me due to my expertise of living in Philly my whole life. I found out the information Tuesday morning on 97.5 The Fanatic as Mike Scott called in and I was in the studio. Not to mention that we will be filming the iconic moment of ‘The Threegional Manager’ Mike Scott eating his very first Philly cheesesteak. Also, I would say him appearing on my podcast, The Outlet Pass Podcast, wouldn’t be a farfetched idea either.

This has been a crazy week or so for me. I’d like to thank Mike Scott, Marc Farzetta, Danny Pommells, Amy Fadool and the Philadelphia 76ers for participating. With that being said, I can fairly say that Mike Scott is now a top-three fan favorite on this 76ers team.
