Mike Scott
Position: power forward
Potential role: sixth man
After being traded from the Los Angeles Clippers last season, Mike Scott has embraced Philly like few other athletes, including crashing the wedding of one fan of Philadelphia 76ers this summer. Scott is equally as important to the Sixers on the court, as he’s to the community off the court. Last year he played a pivotal role as a stretch big man off the bench. He averaged 5.8 points and 3.5 rebounds, while converting 40.1 percent from downtown with both clubs.
He will be the most important reserve for the Sixers this season, not only from a production standpoint, but also a locker room perspective as well. He’s the second oldest player on the club and will be considered a leader. His ability to add defensive toughness and stretch the floor on offense will be important to the team’s success this season.
Josh Richardson
Position: shooting guard/small forward
Potential role: starter
Jason Richardson averaged a career high with 16.6 points and 4.4 assists, he also shot 35.7 percent from downtown. Despite being the number one option for the Miami Heat last season, which resulted in a career year for Richardson, the Heat were still willing to trade him for Jimmy Butler.
Richardson is more than a capable replacement for Butler, as Richardson is a legit two-way player. He can create his own offense and his more than capable of defending either the point guard, shooting guard and small forward positions. One other thing to monitor in regards to Richardson is that Brown could call on him to be the de facto point guard of the second unit, as I’ve written about recently.
