Power Forward

Starter

Like the small forward position, the starting power forward spot saw several players man the position last year. Dario Saric begin the season in that role for the Philadelphia 76ers, then it was Wilson Chandler and Harris finished the season at the power forward spot. However, Al Horford will be taking over the role this year for Philly.

The 33-year-old veteran is a five time All-Star, while playing for the Atlanta Hawks and most recently the Boston Celtics. Last season, he averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists. The hope is that Horford won’t struggle playing power forward for the Sixers, even though he’s played at center for his most of his career. Horford will be defender, floor spacer, screen setter and playmaker for the Sixers this year.

Primary reserve

Don’t be surprised if Brown has Harris slide down to the power forward spot when the second unit comes out on the court. When Horford and Harris are on the bench, then Mike Scott will be the primary power forward coming off the bench. His floor spacing and his grit was a welcomed presence for the Sixers last year and will be for this season as well.

Rest of depth

Jonah Bolden is the only other natural power forward left on the roster. His has potential as a defender and floor spacer, but it’s unlikely he gets a study role this year. Simmons could also fill in at power forward if the need arises, but hopefully the 76ers won’t become that desperate.
