16. Marial Shayok

The Sixers used the 54th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft to select upperclassman Marial Shayok. Shayok spent the first three seasons of his college career playing at Virginia, where he didn’t really impress. It wasn’t until he transferred to Iowa State when he really showed potential as an NBA 3-and-D player.

During his senior season at Iowa State, he averaged 18.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while converting 49.8 percent of his attempts from the floor and 38.6 percent of his 3-pointers. He impressed on the Sixers summer league squad averaging 14.5 points and shot 40.0 percent from deep, (stats per RealGM).

Being one of three rookies on the roster entering this season, Shayok has low expectation in terms of role and production. He’s one of two rookies on a two-way contract and will in all likelihood spend most of the year with the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers G-League affiliate.

When he plays with the Blue Coats, he should be one of, if not the, team’s leading scorer(s). He’s showed flashes of be able to create his own shot during summer league, so that could be something he tries to refine this year in the G-League. Whenever he does play with the 76ers, expect him to be used as a 3-and-D player this year.
