1. Josh Richardson
Acquired from the Jimmy Butler trade to Miami Heat, Josh Richardson is one of the best, young two-way players in the NBA. His defensive and 3-point capabilities will be needed heavily in Philly. Having lost one of the most efficient shooters in the NBA, the Sixers will need every 3-pointer they can make.
Richardson’s 3-point shooting capabilities are also crucial to the Sixers because it will help to space the floor, resulting in more room for Embiid to work inside the paint. Having players around him, whose gravity draws players into the paint, will ensure Richardson getting plenty of open looks at the basket. Shooting 37.5 percent from deep tells us that he is certainly capable of making his shots, similarly his 4.1 assists a game also showcases his ability to play with other people.
One of the biggest reasons the Sixers decided to take on Richardson was for his amazing defense, the one aspect of Redick’s game which was exposed many times throughout the regular season. His inability to guard quicker guards came at the expense of many points. Josh being much quicker, stronger, and longer than Redick will be able to solve the problem which Philly has been facing with the past few years.
His work ethic on the defensive end will also be very much needed for the Sixers. Having also had plenty of playoff experience in Miami will help Richardson as the Sixers look to make a deep run. Similarly, playing alongside elite players such as Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid will help Richardson attack the court and play his natural game.
This will pave the way for Josh to have a breakout season with Philly.
