The Philadelphia 76ers’ 2019-20 season is finally upon us.
BASKETBALL. IS. (ALMOST) BACK. The Philadelphia 76ers‘ preseason schedule begins on Friday, Oct. 11 in Charlotte. As the regular season creeps closer and Brett Brown warms up his coaching chops, media day serves as the precursor to a potentially exciting 2019-20 season.
There’s no quote-generating machine quite like NBA media day. Players and media members pile in a gym, converse and take pictures, all in intense anticipation of the upcoming campaign. The Sixers’ media days have yielded gems in the past, such as those iconic Markelle Fultz–Ben Simmons–Joel Embiid photos (R.I.P., dreams).
This season, there’s a lot to discuss on media day. There are new pieces (see: Al Horford, Josh Richardson) as well as returning players in new, more important roles (see: Tobias Harris, Zhaire Smith). There’s also someone who needs to make all the pieces, you know, fit (see: Brett Brown).
Expect insight into the Sixers’ approach as the new season dawns. Expect discussion on how certain players fit, how certain players see the season playing out, and how certain players spent the offseason in totally non-basketball targets that, quite honestly, might be the best part of media day.
Also, on an unrelated note, here are past media day pictures of: Dario Saric and Robert Covington hugging; Joel Embiid, Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons posing. In the words of the great John Mulaney: “A strange thing, the passage of time.”
2019 brings with it the potential for new gems, because who knows what this seemingly stable roster will look like in two years. Oh, and here are five media day storylines to follow.
