Despite being a rookie, Thybulle has made a very strong first impression as a 3-and-D prospect. In college, he averaged 9.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1. 4 blocks, while converting 35.8 percent of his 3-point attempts. He also had an impressive summer league. There he averaged 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks, while making 39.3 percent of his 3-pointers, per RealGM.
He has continued to impress with his performance in the first preseason game. He finished the contest with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks, while shooting 50.0 percent on four attempts from downtown. While the competition wasn’t an NBA team, it’s still a promising showing for the rookie.
After the preseason matchup, head coach Brett Brown said that Thybulle could end up being a top reserve for the club for the time being, per Rich Hofmann of The Athletic. Thybulle’s ability to defend at a high level and being an efficient 3-point shooter has caught Brown’s eye. It appears that the rookie could become the team’s sixth man, if he proves to be consistent throughout the rest of the preseason. If he does, then he could have an important role with the club this year.
