18. Jahlil Okafor

Christopher Kline

Call it what you will, but quite frankly, I’m shocked Jahlil Okafor fell this far on the list. He represents a key moment in “The Process”, even if its not the shiniest moment on Sam Hinkie’s sterling record. Not every high draft pick under Hinkie was a success and that was part of the philosophy. To take as many swings as possible.

Some question whether Okafor was truly Hinkie’s desired pick and it’s a fair question to ask. He’s not the most Hinkie-esque talent on paper. Inn the end, the Sixers rode with Okafor until it was no longer feasible — too long, in the minds of some. The sweet footwork and strong pedigree weren’t enough to sustain Okafor’s career in a Philadelphia uniform. He finished his time in Philly with a 14.6 points per game average.

17. Spencer Hawes

Christopher Kline

A modern stretch five who has since lost his way, Spencer Hawes was a “Process” mainstay. Embedded in the starting lineup for much of his Sixers tenure, Hawes gave Philadelphia a nice dosage of scoring and shooting in the frontcourt as he scored 10.0 points on 36.6 percent shooting from downtown.

Hawes faded into obscurity and was off the team by the time Nerlens Noel, Okafor, and Joel Embiid overtook the frontcourt, but during his Sixers tenure, there was plenty of love for Hawes and his steadfast presence. A hulking frame, a deft 3-point shot, and some underrated defense made Hawes a useful piece.
