Embiid represented the highs of “The Process” — a top-three pick who helped lead a revolution. Robert Covington, in many ways, represented the lows. He was a no-name recruit from a no-name school and worked his way from the bottom to become an integral asset to Philadelphia. Covington began his career as a G-Leaguer in Houston.
Upon arriving in Philadelphia, it was a steady dosage of 3-and-D ideals that landed Cov on the roster and in the rotation. His limitations are well-documented, but by the time his Philadelphia career ended, Covington sat among the NBA’s best perimeter defenders. During his tenure with the Sixers, he averaged 1.6 steals and 35.9 percent shooting on 3-pointers. He’s a special talent born from Philadelphia’s lengthy tank.
1. Joel Embiid

We’re ranking players from ‘The Process.’ Joel Embiid’s literal nickname is “The Process”. Lauded as a savior in Philadelphia and cemented as the city’s most exciting sports talent, it took Embiid less than three (active) seasons to establish himself as the undisputed top big man in basketball — not to mention a top-10 NBA player.
Injury concerns aside, Embiid is a unique force. The All-Star big man has averaged 24.3 points in his career. He’s a battering ram in the paint, bludgeoning smaller bigs and posing a near-constant mismatch in the Sixers’ favor. He’s also a nimble face-up scorer, a dominant rim protector, and a mobile perimeter defender. There are many facets to his game, and he’s still improving.
Big shout out to all The Sixer Sense writers that helped with this project: Justin, Stuart, Ryan, Christopher and Ashley. That concludes our rankings of Philadelphia 76ers “Process members”. Do you agree? Comment below if you think we got it wrong.
