With the new decade beginning, the Philadelphia 76ers players, head coach and general manager need some New Year’s Resolutions.

Happy New Year from us at The Sixer Sense, sorry this is coming out a little late. 2020 has a lot of potential not only for the Philadelphia 76ers as a whole, but the individuals on the team as well. Our writers got together and came up with New Year’s Resolutions for the players, head coach Brett Brown and general manager Elton Brand.

Elton Brand

Looking at Elton Brand’s body of work at the general manager position, it’s clear he’s had a relatively success year in 2019. He’s far from perfect, but he’s made some solid moves overall. Still, Brand’s New Year’s solution needs to be for him to look at the bigger picture.

“Brand sacrificed high volume 3-point shooting, in exchange for size.”

This isn’t to say that Brand has had a narrow focus when constructing the team’s current roster, but he’s construction of the roster has it’s flaws pertaining to the overview of the whole NBA. In short, Brand built the 76ers to ideally beat teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and potentially Los Angeles Lakers.

Both are title contenders and could very well be matchups that the Sixers have to face deeper in the playoffs. Despite the 76ers having the size to have the defensive advantage against those two teams, there’s plenty of teams that could stop Philly on offense.

Brand sacrificed high volume 3-point shooting, in exchange for size. Teams like the Miami Heat have figured out how to neutralize the Sixers in the half court with zone defense. He needs to add more outside shooting moving forward this season if the want to have a chance in the playoffs against teams not named Milwaukee or the Los Angeles Lakers.
