Philadelphia 76ers can benefit from Detroit Pistons turmoil

The NBA Trade deadline could be beneficial for the Philadelphia 76ers if one Eastern Conference rival decides to enter a rebuild.

Hopefully, the Philadelphia 76ers are doing their due diligence before the NBA Trade Deadline. One thing that they should have already realized is that the Detroit Pistons are considering going into a full rebuild. This could be the ideal situation for the Sixers to get legit talent for their bench.

Now it makes no sense for the 76ers to pursue often and currently injured Blake Griffin or Reggie Jackson. It also wouldn’t make sense to add star center Andre Drummond who’s name been in trade talks already. Focusing on acquiring role players should be the path Philly should follow in any trade negotiations they have with Detroit.

I’ve written about how the Sixers should pursue reserve point guard Derrick Rose, where as my colleague Ryan Callahan of The Sixer Sense wrote against the idea. Regardless if your for or against adding Rose, he’s a player that the 76ers front office should consider.

According to Keith Pompey of Philly.com (subscription required to read), Philly has interest in two of the Pistons perimeter shooters in Langston Galloway and Luke Kennard. Both are valuable sharpshooters that would help with the Sixers floor spacing issues.

Galloway his averaging 10.5 points while making 39.6 percent of his 5.2 3-point attempts. Kennard is averaging a career high 15.8 points on 39.9 percent shooting from downtown and he’s attempting 6.5 3-pointers.

Aaron Ferguson of Pistons Powered came up with trades for both Galloway and Kennard to the 76ers. Both hypothetical trades favored the Pistons more, especially the Kennard one, but the trade for Galloway he proposed was especially interesting due to the fact that he also included Markieff Morris.

Morris his averaging 10.6 points on 40.2 percent (career high) shooting from deep. Morris is a veteran who can score and while he’s not a great defender, he’s a gritty one. He would be an upgrade at the backup power forward spot for sure and could play center occasionally as well.

Another player that would be nice fit on the 76ers would be Tony Snell. He’s averaging 8.2 points on 42.7 percent shooting from behind the arc. The only thing is that he’s making around $11.4 million this season and what Philly would have to give up to afford his contract wouldn’t be worth what he can bring to the roster.

Working under the premise that the Pistons will be sellers at the NBA Trade Deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers could end up with several upgrades on their roster if they can strike a deal with the Detroit.
