The future of the Philadelphia 76ers 26-year-old rookie big man who’s on a two-way contract has come into question this past week.

In terms of production, the Philadelphia 76ers rookies didn’t have an impressive week overall. However, the future of one of their first year players appears to be uncertain based on the lack of moves the team made this past week.

Outside of poor 3-point shooting, Matisse Thybulle had a solid week of production. He averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 blocks and 1.8 steals. He also started the last three games as well. Part of the reason being is because head coach Brett Brown is focusing on developing Thybulle the second half of this season and prepare the rookie for a role in the playoffs.

Marial Shayok had a down week in terms of scoring with the Sixers G-League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. In the first game he played he only had 16 points and in the second game he finished with 15 points. Considering that he’s been averaging 22.0 points per game with Delaware, this isn’t a good sign for the rookie wing.

The 76ers had until January 15 of this year to convert Norvel Pelle‘s two-way contract and still be able to sign another player to a two-way deal. However, they didn’t do that and now his future is uncertain. For now, once Pelle’s contract 45-days runs out with Philly (with one day left), he will be stuck in the G-League until the end of the Blue Coats season.

According to Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.com, the Sixers didn’t want to sign him to a deal now, because it would limit their flexibility at the NBA trade deadline. It appears that signing Pelle to a regular deal isn’t completely off the table. Once the deadline has passed, the Sixers will know if they’re able to sign him to regular deal or not.

In terms of play, Pelle produced solid numbers in limited minutes this past week. He averaged 3.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. Despite his solid stats, his future with the club is up in the air at the present moment.

No rookie really impressed for the Philadelphia 76ers this past week with their play. Thybulle’s development and Pelle’s contract are the two biggest aspects that the Sixers need to focus on in terms on their rookie players.
