This past week not only did Matisse Thybulle shine among the Philadelphia 76ers rookies, but on the team as a whole based on his performance on defense.

Two out of three rookies on the Philadelphia 76ers did have a pretty impressive week. However, the Sixers top pick from this past NBA draft stole the show with his effort on the defensive end. It was only their undrafted rookie who didn’t have an especially good week.

20th pick, 2020

Matisse Thybulle has continued to start in the place of the injured Joel Embiid and didn’t disappoint last week. He averaged 3.7 steals and played very impressive defense, even on the likes of LeBron James. His offense was still inconsistent as he only shot above 40.0 percent from the field just once, however his defense makes up for his offensive woes. It would be nice to see more consistency moving forward from him shooting the ball.

More from Sixers News

Despite being stuck in the G-League this past week, Marial Shayok had several impressive performances with the Delaware Blue Coats. He had 29 points against the South Bay Lakers, 23 points against the Memphis Hustle, 18 points against the Greensboro Swarm and 26 points against the Erie Bayhawks. Having three out of four games in which he scored over 20 points should catch the Sixers eye, especially because of Josh Richardson‘s hamstring injury.

Undrafted

Norvel Pelle played just one game this past week with the 76ers and he didn’t impress, but it ended up being the last one he was allowed on his two-way contract. Now he must play with the Blue Coats for the rest of their season before he can rejoin Philly, unless the Sixers sign him to regular contract.

Each of the Philadelphia 76ers had their own journey they had this past week. Thybulle’s continuing to improving on his already great defense, Shayok is lighting up the G-League yet again and Pelle’s future is still unknown.
