The Kings were one of the most promising teams in basketball last season. De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield burst onto the scene, and Marvin Bagley proved solid as the No. 2 overall pick. This season, however, has marked a step in the wrong direction.
There are several factors at play. Luke Walton is a step down at head coach, injuries have plagued the roster, and a sense of discontentment has invaded the locker room. There are rumblings Hield may request a trade, and Bogdan Bogdanovic‘s future still feels uncertain.
In this instance, Sacramento lucks out. Anthony Edwards is the top prospect, and he fills a potential area of need if one or both of Hield and Bogdanovic are gone next season. He’s a powerful athlete who can score proficiently at all three levels. It’s not hard to picture his fit at the next level.
