Devin Vassell is a big riser, and his skill set could find a comfortable home in Denver. A long 6-foot-5 wing, Vassell is another prospect who occupies the prototypical 3-and-D box. He can hit spot-up jumpers at a high clip, and his defense has anchored Florida State this season.
There are concerns about Vassell’s ceiling, but his floor is relatively high. He’s a smart team defender, he can defend across positions, and he competes at a high level. Anyone who can defend in such a capacity and effectively space the floor has NBA value.
Denver lost depth at the trade deadline, though it was purposeful. The Nuggets have a wealth of talent on the perimeter, but the salary cap can only stretch so far in a small market. They will want to restock on young, cheap wing talent, and Vassell is worth the roster spot and a chance to develop behind Michael Porter Jr. and others in the second unit.
