The Mike Conley experiment has gone haywire in Utah. Even if Conley can return to some semblance of his former self down the stretch this season, it’s wise for the Jazz to explore other options in the near future. Kira Lewis Jr. is a prospect of great intrigue.
Maybe the fastest end-to-end player in the 2020 class, Lewis would give the Jazz two elite athletes in the backcourt. Lewis and Donovan Mitchell would thrive in an up-tempo, open-court setting — not necessarily the direction Utah leans, but speed is a valuable weapon nonetheless.
There are concerns to iron out in Lewis’ game. He has a thin frame, which could lead to troubles on defense. He’s also a bit turnover-prone, which could correlate to a steeper learning curve at the next level. Luckily, he’d get at least a year to sit behind Conley and learn.
