The Celtics have several picks (again) and all season, we have heard complaints from the front office about how the roster is too saturated with young players. The Celtics want to contend, so a draft-and-stash option seems reasonable at this stage.
At this moment, Aleksej Pokusevski is the highest-rated International prospect who is expected to stay overseas for at least one more season. There is evidently speculation of a potential draft promise already, as he hasn’t played since November under mysterious circumstances. A first-round promise might lead to such a decision.
In addition to the stash element, Pokusevski is another potential solution to Boston’s lackluster frontcourt. He’s a lanky 7-footer, he can space the floor, and he has played meaningful minutes in a professional league. That’s enough to warrant an extended look.
