When you look past LeBron James, the Lakers’ point guard position is a mess. While Alex Caruso continues to capture the imagination of fans with strong performances in crunch time, L.A. refuses to treat him as the more reliable option over Rajon Rondo. The end result could be a renewed investment in the position on draft night.

Tre Jones hans’t had the most memorable sophomore season, but he’s still a steady hand who limits turnovers, converts threes, and effectively runs the pick-and-roll. If the Lakers want a late-round pick who can contribute to a contender, Jones is a safe bet.

He doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but the Lakers are more interested in floor than ceiling as long as James and Anthony Davis populate the roster. Jones has a high basketball I.Q. and is a good enough defender at his position. It’s a natural fit.
