Philadelphia 76ers Player of the Week: Joel Embiid’s back
There were barely any games this past week, but there was still one Philadelphia 76ers’ player that deserves the “Player of the Week” award.
The Philadelphia 76ers only played one game this past week and because of that, it was tempting not to give out a “Player of the Week” award. However, upon further consideration and thanks to the All-Star game, there is one player on the roster that’s worthy of the award.
Joel Embiid was voted in as an All-Star starter and was chosen to join Team Giannis. Despite his team losing the event, he made a huge impact on the game and if his team would have one, there’s a chance he would have given the Kobe Bryant MVP award.
He was one of three players that ended the All-Star game with a double-double. He had 22 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, two turnovers, and three fouls, while converting 8-13 shots from the field, none of his two 3-point attempts and 6-8 free throws. He was the third-leading scorer on Team Giannis.

In the Sixers’ first game after All-Star weekend, Embiid powered the 76ers in an overtime victory against the Brooklyn Nets. He had a key block against Wilson Chandler that sent the game into overtime. He finished the contest with 39 points (season-high), 16 rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks, five turnovers, and four fouls, while making 10-12 shots from the floor, his one 3-pointer and 18-19 of his foul shots (season-high).
Honorable Mention
This award goes to one of Philly’s new players. Alec Burks was key in the Sixers win against the Nets. He had 19 points, four rebounds, one assist and two fouls, while shooting 6-11 from the field, 2-4 from downtown and 5-5 from the charity stripe coming off the bench.
In a quiet week for the Philadelphia 76ers, Embiid averaged 30.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steal, 1.0 block, 3.5 turnovers, and 3.5 fouls.
