Despite struggling for the season, Philadelphia 76ers big man Al Horford was able to find his grove during this past week of play.

It’s been no secret that Al Horford has been struggling this season with his play and his fit with the Philadelphia 76ers. Yet this past week he was able to turn back the clock and be the player he was in years past in the two games that the Sixers played in.

It should be noted that with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announcing that the games will be suspended for at least a 30-day period, this will be the last “Player of the Week” award given by The Sixer Sense for a while.

Horford was the starting center in the 76ers disappointing loss against the Golden State Warriors. Horford ended with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, one block, three fouls, and two fouls, while shooting 9-16 from the field, 2-5 from the 3-point line, and 2-2 from the foul line. Horford was the Sixers second-leading scorer in this contest.

Joel Embiid returned to the lineup in the win against the Detroit Pistons, but Horford was able to play such a great second fiddle to Embiid as the starting power forward. Horford finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two blocks, two turnovers, and one foul, while converting 8-11 shots from the floor and 4-6 from downtown. It’s interesting to see that without Ben Simmons in the lineup, Horford and Embiid were both able to produce at a high level.

Honorable Mention

Speaking of Embiid, he gets the “Honorable Mention” for this past week. In the one game he played in against the Pistons, he had 30 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, one steal, four turnovers, and three fouls. He was able to come in dominant Pistons’ frontcourt players after missing time with an injury.

It’s good to see Horford playing like himself again. It was the first time this season he’s had back-to-back double-doubles. He averaged 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, 2.5 turnovers, and 1.5 fouls. The questions become can he do this when Simmons returns and when the Philadelphia 76ers play tougher competition? Sadly, fans will have to wait to find out due to the fact that the NBA is taking a hiatus.
