Due to the NBA having a short week overall, the rookies on the Philadelphia 76ers had limited opportunities to make an impact.

The NBA is currently in a 30-day hiatus due to coronavirus pandemic (per The World Health Organization). Before the NBA suspended play, the Philadelphia 76ers only played in one game this past week, which didn’t give their rookies much of a chance to shine.

Matisse Thybulle was the only rookie that played any minutes for the Sixers this past week. Against the Detroit Pistons, he had nine points and three steals. This is solid production for the rookie who has struggled to score at times this seasons.

Like the NBA, the G-League has also postponed its games as well. This, of course, affects Marial Shayok who’s on a two-way contract and plays for Philly’s G-League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. Before play was suspended, he played in two games this past week for Delaware. Against the Lakeland Magic, Shayok had 26 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. He also had 26 points and eight rebounds against the Main Red Claws.

Undrafted

It’s not surprising that Norvel Pelle didn’t get any playing time this past week. He was already having a tough time cracking the rotation and on top of that, Joel Embiid returned from injury. As long as Embiid and Al Horford are healthy, it’s hard seeing Pelle getting any significant playing time moving forward.

Two out of three Philadelphia 76ers rookies had a good week, although it was the abbreviated one with the league going on hiatus. Hopefully, they can pick up where they left off once the season starts up again.
