The general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers shouldn’t be interested in leaving the club for a franchise like the New York Knicks.

The NBA season has been paused, due to the coronavirus outbreak, but there are still some interesting headlines coming out. Probably the most interesting in recent days is that the New York Knicks have interested in making the Philadelphia 76ers general manager Elton Brand their own general manager, per Keith Pompey of Philly.com. However, Brand shouldn’t have an interest in joining the Knicks.

Despite making several major mistakes as the general manager of the Sixers, as I have written about in the past, he’s still in a good situation. Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are two superstar talents in the NBA that he can continue to build around.

The 76ers still are a playoff team, despite not playing up to expectations. On top of that, outside of this draft, Philly still has all of their future first round picks (per RealGM). The only really bad thing that Brand has going on right now with the Sixers is having Al Horford on a terrible contract, but trading Horford is totally an option whenever the offseason begins.

Then there’s also a chance he gets to install the head coach of his choosing, that’s if head coach Brett Brown fails in the playoffs and the franchise decides to move on from Brown. On top of that, it’s reported that the Sixers still like Brand, so why to leave a place that wants to keep you despite your mistakes.

The Knicks, on the other hand, have one of the worst owners in the NBA in James Dolan. They aren’t contending, but are in a rebuild that has no direction. Only Mitchell Robinson and RJ Barrett look like the only legit young prospects to build around with Dennis Smith Jr. and Kevin Knox looking like busts at this point.

New York does have a nice amount of future first round picks, but Brand has never led a rebuild before and with a volatile owner like Dolan, the Knicks may not be the best organization to try one with.

Leon Rose is a former agent that the Knicks have hired to be their president, so Brand probably wouldn’t be the top decision-maker in New York like he is in Philly. Why leave a situation where you are the head guy for a place where you might not be.

The choice is easy, Brand should want to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks organization just isn’t an attractive place to be employed by, just ask Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
