2. Theo Maledon, ASVEL
The Sixers have a truly elite point guard in Ben Simmons, but his unique skill set can still pose issues in a halfcourt setting. He’s also 6-foot-10, so it’s not difficult to pair Simmons with another lead guard. Maledon is someone the Sixers should aggressively consider, even if it means trading up a few spots.
At 6-foot-4 and 18 years old, Maledon has the distinction of contributing real minutes in an acclaimed professional league. His performance to date, especially at such a young age, should generate optimism over his ability to transition to NBA basketball.
He’s a good athlete with enough length to defend either guard spot. He’s not a knockdown shooter, but his shiftiness and creativity as a playmaker would add welcomed diversity to the Sixers offense. He can thrive in pick-and-rolls. He’s also a decent isolation threat who can create space, penetrate the defense, and apply pressure as needed.
The Sixers should strongly consider a point guard in a point guard-heavy draft. There is always value in a good wing, something Philadelphia has a cursory understanding of, but there is also tremendous value in players who can aptly create for others, something the Sixers have lacked for far too long.
