Injuries cut R.J. Hampton’s season short in the NBL. He wasn’t terribly effective in his first professional season, but Hampton harbors the NBA tools and the pedigree necessary to garner top-15 consideration.
The Magic have, hopefully, found a point guard of the future in Markelle Fultz. He’s still far from perfect, but considering the circumstances, Fultz’s emergence as Orlando’s undisputed starter qualifies as a major success. Even so, Hampton and Fultz are big enough to share the court, and it’s time for Orlando to diversify a forward-heavy roster.
Hampton is a quick-twitch athlete who can aptly score at all three levels. He’s also a solid playmaker, and at 6-foot-5, has some versatility on defense. He can add variety to a sometimes stagnant offense, and there’s a decent chance he outperforms his placement at 15.
