One of the most physical athletes in the 2020 class, Patrick Williams could fill a need in Brooklyn. The Nets are without a clear long-term option at power forward — to call Taurean Prince underwhelming is an understatement. He’s not a starting four on a title contender. This is a necessary depth move for Brooklyn.
Williams probably won’t contribute in a major capacity right away. He’s raw by most standards, and Brooklyn is expected to contend in the Eastern Conference next season. Most of Brooklyn’s moves in free agency and on the trade market will be geared toward winning.
Still, Williams has unique versatility on defense and the potential to contribute in a complementary role on offense. He’s a bare-minimum shooter, but he can shoot, and his defensive statistics at Florida State were impressive. He makes a lot of sense for a Nets team fond of hard-nosed competitors.
