If the Lakers have one position of need, it’s point guard. Not for the minutes LeBron James is on the floor, but for the minutes he’s not on the floor. Rajon Rondo is a nice thought, but he’s too far gone. Alex Caruso is next in line, but L.A. would be wise to add another capable playmaker to the second unit.
At this point, many would consider Tre Jones the best prospect on the board. He’s a proven high-I.Q. playmaker who minimizes mistakes and defends his position. He’s also a good shooter who can thrive in a less ball-dominant capacity next to LeBron and Anthony Davis.
The Lakers will want someone who can come in and produce on a championship-contending roster. Jones is very much that. He’s not a top-tier athlete, nor is his ceiling overwhelmingly high, but his floor is. He’s the type of high-floor, positive-impact-on-winning player the Lakers will covet.
