The reigning National Player of the Year, Obi Toppin‘s sophomore season was a revelation. He has now embedded himself in the top-five on many draft boards. The Bulls are caught awkwardly between a rebuild and the next stage of evolution. There is enough talent in Chicago to start competing sooner than later. Toppin is prepared to contribute to winning.

A burly 6-foot-9, Toppin has some positional versatility in the frontcourt. He’s not a full-time center by any stretch, but Toppin is a versatile offensive piece who should fit amicably in numerous lineup combinations. He can spread the floor, attack in straight-line drives, and even create for others in spurts.

The Bulls have a solid frontcourt quartet in Wendell Carter Jr., Lauri Markkanen, Thaddeus Young, and Daniel Gafford. Still, given Toppin’s readiness and the Bulls’ desire to compete, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bulls pull the trigger on someone this accomplished.
