Despite having an uneventful rookie year on the NBA level, Marial Shayok’s future with the Philadelphia 76ers is bright moving forward.
Marial Shayok became the second rookie drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers to play on a two-way contract. As a result, he barely played with the Sixers as he spent most of his season with the Delaware Blue Coats, the 76ers’ G-League affiliate. Despite not getting much run on the NBA level, Shayok’s future in Philly is bright.
I’ve already covered Zhaire Smith‘s future with the Sixers, so it seems only appropriate that I continue to cover players on the 76ers roster. With that in-mind, Shayok seems to be ideal next player to cover due to the nature of his contract.
I recently wrote about how he deserves a regular NBA contract next season based on his G-League performance. This season with the Blue Coats, he averaged 22.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, while converting 35.8 percent of his 3-pointers.

It’s clear that he has potential as a 3-and-D player and that’s something that the Sixers need. While Shayok probably won’t have the same type of break out second season as Shake Milton has, he could become a member of the rotation.
If his contract is converted, then it will probably be a cheap four-year deal just like Milton’s contract. The best-case scenario for Shayok is that he’s a regular member of the Sixers rotation next season and the worst-case scenario is that he’s an end of the bench player that gets some burn in the G-League. Considering that he was the 54th pick of this previous draft, either outcome is positive considering his draft pedigree.
Hopefully, the Philadelphia 76ers give Shayok a regular NBA contract. If they do, then regardless of his role on the roster, it will be an upgrade over this past season.
