3. ANTHONY EDWARDS, Wing, Georgia
Anthony Edwards is the prohibitive favorite to go No. 1 on draft night, and while he’s certainly not guaranteed the honor, it’s not difficult to understand why his stock is so high. He’s a powerful athlete at 6-foot-5, and depending on your stance, could profile as the highest-upside player on the board.
A freight train is the common metaphor for Edwards. He can steamroll smaller guards en route to the basket, and at times, he can steamroll bigger guards as well. He’s a powerful athlete, and it shines through on tape. He’s also a talented scorer on the perimeter, capable of making high-difficulty shots on a regular basis.
In order to unlock his star potential, Edwards will need to grow as a decision-maker in the NBA. He has a tendency to settle for bad shots, although he may deserve a slight pass due to the nature of UGA’s roster. He’s a good defender, but not a consistent one. He has the tools to improve in that respect.
