There are only a few other players on the Philadelphia 76ers who have a bleaker future than Raul Nelto does in Philadelphia.

It’s hard to predict the future, however, now seems like a good time to try. Thus far, I’ve covered the future outlooks of Zhaire Smith, Marial Shayok, and Norvel Pelle with the Philadelphia 76ers. The future of Raul Neto in Philadelphia probably won’t extend beyond this season based on his performance and how the team could upgrade his position this offseason.

I’ve wasn’t a huge fan of the Neto signing last season and besides a 19-point explosion against the lowly Golden State Warriors, there has been nothing that has changed my mind in that regard. This season he’s averaged 4.3 points and 1.6 assists, while making 39.4 percent from the 3-point line.

Neto proved to be nothing more than a solid place holder at the point guard position. Offensively he lacks upper-tier athleticism so he has to relate on his quick wit to create offense for himself. Despite his solid I.Q. on the defensive end, his lack of athletism and 6-foot-1 frame makes him a liability against more physically gifted playmakers.

More from Sixers News

Neto is an ok third-string point guard on a contending team, but honestly, the Sixers could fill up the point guard depth chart through other means this summer. I’ve already written about the draft could be a way to address the point guard depth and how former 76ers draft pick Vasilije Micic is considering coming to the NBA.

If both things were to happen, there’s no need for the Sixers to re-sign Neto in free agency. Even if one or neither happens, there are other free agents who should be available for Philly who are considered an upgrade over Neto.

If worse comes to worst for the Philadelphia 76ers, they could probably re-sign Neto this summer, but more than likely whenever this season is over, his time with the Sixers will also be done.
