The Suns get a hyper-efficient point guard who doesn’t domineer possessions in Tyrese Haliburton, the perfect complement to Devin Booker in the backcourt. He will have the opportunity to come along slowly behind Ricky Rubio, but in all likelihood, Haliburton can contribute significantly as a rookie.
What he lacks in perceived upside, Haliburton makes up for with supreme intelligence and poise. He’s money as a spot-up shooter, he rarely turns the ball over, and he has a soothing pace to his game. Seldom does Haliburton rush or press. He’s normally very much in control.
The concern for Haliburton is two-fold. He has great size and length for the position, but he’s rail-thin and lacks a degree of explosion. He’s not a proficient pull-up shooter either, and his mechanics need serious work. Until he can iron out his pull-up shot, there are unavoidable limitations to his game.
