Probably the consensus best player available at this point, Theo Maledon ends up in Miami despite Kendrick Nunn’s breakout rookie season. The Heat won’t hand Maledon a significant role right away — especially if Goran Dragic re-signs — but he makes sense as a high-I.Q. playmaker on a contending team.
Maledon’s strongest attribute is his feel for the game. He’s a smooth athlete who plays under control. He weaves comfortably into the teeth of the defense, and makes up for limited burst with a great deal of craft. Not to mention, he’s a fluid three-point shooter.
At 6-foot-4, Maledon wields an impressive 6-foot-9 wingspan. He can comfortably defend shooting guards, and his shooting stroke makes for a comfortable fit off-ball in two-guard lineups. He may not have a big role on day one, but Maledon could carve out a future in Miami.
