NBA Draft 2020: Mock Draft 3.0
The Hawks have sured up the frontcourt in the form of Clint Capela, and Trae Young will handle playmaking duties for the foreseeable future. It makes sense for Atlanta to tackle the wing once again, in this instance taking Deni Avdija.
Avdija has carved out a real role for Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, an impressive accomplishment for any teenager. He’s a big playmaker at 6-foot-8, which has natural appeal in the modern NBA. He wouldn’t need to carry too big a burden in Atlanta, and he’s the type of creative halfcourt threat who can remove pressure from Young.
There are questions about the consistency of Avdija’s jumper, but the mechanics project well and he has natural touch. He should figure it out and become a reliable deep threat, especially when Young is the one setting up open looks on the perimeter. He can immediately help a Hawks team looking to take the next step.
