The Philadelphia 76ers made a trade that landed them a wing whose future with the club appears to be done after this season.

Glenn Robinson III has been on a similar journey like Alec Burks has this season. Both were having career seasons with the Golden State Warriors before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. Now like Burks, Robinson’s future in Philadelphia outside of this season seems unlikely.

As previously stated, Robinson was having a career year before being acquired by the Sixers. With Golden State, he was averaging 12.9 points and 4.7 rebounds, while shooting 40.0 percent on his 3-pointers. The points and rebounds per game were career highs for the journeyman wing.

In a surprising development, Robinson had a steeper decline with the 76ers than Burks did. It took him eight games with the Sixers before he finally hit a 3-point attempt. For this season with the 76ers, Robinson has averaged 7.4 points and 2.8 rebounds, while making just 28.6 percent of his shots from downtown.

His dip in production is probably related to the fact he was uncertain of what his role was when he first arrived in Philly this season. The dramatic decrease in minutes and shot attempts probably didn’t help either.

Due to the fact that he was having a career season prior to being traded, he’s probably going to be too expensive for the 76ers to retain in free agency as well. He’s a 3-and-D wing and that should get teams with more cap space interested in him this offseason.

To put it simply, players like Tobias Harris and Al Horford are on overpaid contracts. That means the Sixers probably won’t be able to sign players for beyond minimum contracts this summer and Robinson is worth more than that.

Robinson is yet another player whose future with the Philadelphia 76ers appears to be uncertain whenever the offseason begins.
