Philadelphia 76ers: Should Brett Brown have another tournament?
It’s time for another Philadelphia 76ers’ wing tournament!
Last season, the Philadelphia 76ers had three reserve perimeter players that were worthy of playing time during the postseason. Head coach Brett Brown decided to have the three wings compete in a tournament of sorts during the regular season in order to decide which player was worthy of playoff minutes. He should do the same thing with only eight regular-season games to go before the postseason begins.
James Ennis, Furkan Korkmaz, and Jonathon Simmons were the three players that Brown had in this tournament last year. Korkmaz had an injury so he was taken out of the running pretty early. It was mostly between Ennis and Simmons. Ennis was able to beat out the defensive-oriented Simmons with his 3-point shooting and offensive rebounding.
This season the competition would most likely include Glenn Robinson III, Matisse Thybulle, and Korkmaz. Each of these three wings has a unique skill set that sets them apart from each other and makes choosing playing just one difficult.

Robinson has proven to be a solid 3-and-D player, but he’s not elite in either 3-point shooting or on the defensive end. Thybulle is an elite defensive player, despite only being a rookie, but he struggles to offer anything on the offense. Korkmaz has exploded into a legit offensive threat this season but is a defensive liability.
Who Brown chooses to go with at this point is anyone’s guess and that’s why having these three players in a tournament for playing time to end the season is so important. These eight games isn’t a lot of time, but they aren’t only important for building chemistry with the starting five, but also to figure out the bench rotation.
The Philadelphia 76ers have some nice depth on the perimeter this year. It would be in Brown’s best interest to have Thybulle, Korkmaz, and Robinson to compete in a tournament of sorts for playing time to end the regular season.
