NBA Draft 2020: Big Board 3.0
26. TRE JONES / GUARD / DUKE
One of college basketball’s foremost point guards, Tre Jones was loosely in the discussion for Player of the Year this season. Both a formidable defender and a high-I.Q. playmaker, Jones limits mistakes, possesses all the intangibles, and has two strong seasons at Duke under his belt.
Expect Jones to carve out a role at the next level. He’s smart beyond his years, and his intensity as a defender should win over coaches. He’s not an especially grand athlete at 6-foot-3, but he has quick hands and even quicker instincts at the point of attack. He will defend his position well.
Jones still needs to prove himself as a shooter offensively, but his mechanics are smooth and show promise. He calmly probes the pick-and-roll and seldom presses. He’s not one to turn the ball over, and he’s more than capable of scoring his own points when the opportunities arise.
