NBA Draft 2020: Big Board 3.0
17. PATRICK WILLIAMS / FORWARD / FLORIDA STATE
Another versatile wing/forward from the Florida State ranks, Patrick Williams is deserving of legitimate lottery buzz. He’s a unique talent on offense, possessing an impressive mix of skills at 6-foot-8. He was a tad inconsistent as a freshman — at least early on — but such is the way of youth.
Williams is built like a tank. Just look at his thighs in the photo above. I mean, wow! He’s not explosive in the traditional sense, but he’s a powerful athlete who can absorb contact and finish effectively inside. Add in a silky in-between game, some nice handles, and upside as a playmaker, and there’s a lot to like about Williams.
Concerns for Williams, again, stem from his youth. He was turnover prone this season and his jumper lacks a degree of consistency, especially from beyond the arc. He will need to iron out his kinks, but the core package is both intriguing and useful by NBA standards.
