7. TYRESE HALIBURTON / GUARD / IOWA STATE
One of the most singularly intelligent players on the board, it’s nearly impossible to envision Tyrese Haliburton not finding his way the next level. While there are valid concerns over his athletic profile, Haliburton boasts a 6-foot-8 wingspan and plenty of skill, even if it comes in an unconventional aesthetic package.
Haliburton was one of the best playmakers in college basketball this season. His assist-to-turnover ratio is a coach’s dream, and he should thrive in just about any offensive construct. He’s not explosive off the dribble, but Haliburton can slyly navigate the pick-and-roll and use changes in speed to break down defenders. He can aptly run an offense. He’s also effective off-ball due to his prowess as a spot-up shooter.
His compete lack of a pull-up jumper is a concern, and it’s not unreasonable to call for a complete overhaul in Haliburton’s mechanics, even if the natural touch is there. But he can certainly spot up, and his long, meandering strides to the basket often prove fruitful. He can score at the rim, he sees the floor better than most veterans, and he’s mistake-averse. Not to mention his excellent defensive tools. Haliburton is someone to bet on.
