Thus far in this series of articles covering the Philadelphia 76ers best trades with opposing teams, the only time the 76ers most recent deal with a team had been their best one was with the Boston Celtics. However, the Dallas Mavericks join the Celtics as their best deal with the Sixers is their most recent one.
The Mavericks and 76ers have only completed four trades so far in NBA history. The first trade that was executed between the two squads occurred in 1985, but the next one didn’t happen until 2013. Those first two of the trades didn’t result in anything major and Dallas clearly won the Nerlens Noel trade back in 2017.
The trade that Philly came away as a winner occurred in the 2018 NBA Draft and at the time it didn’t seem like a big move. Yet the move appears to be paying off in a big way for the Sixers in the second half of this season thus far.

Moving up just a few draft spots doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s beginning to look like the 76ers came away with the steal of that draft. The 54th pick was used to select Shake Milton and he’s been very impressive thus far.

He was one of the top rookies’ in the G-League last year averaging around 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists. It took until after the All-Star break this year, but Milton broke onto the scene in a big way. He tied an NBA record 13 consecutive 3-point makes and scored 39 points against the Los Angeles Clippers.
This season, he’s averaging 9.5 points on 45.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line. He has a strong chance of claiming a starting job moving forward and he appears to have a bright future with the club.
The 56th pick became Ray Spalding who played for Dallas and the Phoenix Suns as a rookie and didn’t even play this season after only being signed to a two-way contract by the Charlotte Hornets at the beginning of 2020.
Kostas Antetokounmpo, younger brother of reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, played for the Mavs on a two-way contract last year. He was waived by Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers claimed him off of waivers. He’s only played a total of five NBA games in two seasons. He’s shown flashes in the G-League, but is a very raw talent at this point.
