Tobias Harris is an off-court leader for the Philadelphia 76ers.
One of the more underrated stories during the NBA’s break from play has been the transformation of the Tobias Harris. No, he hasn’t added muscle like Ben Simmons, but he’s gone through a transformation as a leader and clearly has become the off-court leader of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Besides taking to the streets to protest for social justice (check out his Instagram and Twitter pages), Harris has apparently been very important for the Sixers during this time period. He’s been working on team chemistry and addressing it head-on.

The most obvious way Harris has gone about working on the team’s chemistry issues is bringing it to light on ESPN’S First Take. There he was very blunt and honest about the team’s chemistry this season.
However, that’s not the only thing he’s done to show he’s taken a leadership role with the roster. He’s contacted Glenn Robinson III and other teammates during this break, per Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice. This is a sign of true leadership in terms of keeping a team together during a time of separation.
Another example of Harris’ leadership comes in the form of leading the 76ers top rookie Matisse Thybulle. He encouraged Thybulle to be active in recent social protest, per Noah Levick of NBCSPhilly, but beyond that, Harris has been a mentor of sorts for the rookie all season long.
It will be interesting to see how this translates to on the court and if Harris can turn it into on-court leadership as well, but it’s clear right now that he’s an off-court leader of the Philadelphia 76ers.
