The Pelicans’ main focus for the foreseeable future is building around Zion Williamson. The most effective manner of doing so is littering the roster with shooters. Aaron Nesmith might be the best shooter on the board, even if his recent injury history is a concern.
Nesmith hit over 50 percent of his triples this season before succumbing to a foot injury. He will need to provide a clean bill of health to prospective employers, but assuming there are no long-term worries, he should have a spot in the lottery discussion. He thrives as an off-movement shooter. The kind who could learn a lot from J.J. Redick.
He may not provide a ton on defense, or even elsewhere on offense, but Nesmith is the kind of gifted shooter who always has a spot in the league. He would fit seamlessly in the New Orleans’ second unit — another on-the-move sharpshooter to create havoc, off of which Zion can feast.
