Strengths
The first thing to know about Stevens is that he is a winner. His senior year in high school he helped Roman Catholic win the Pennsylvania Class 6A state championship before leading Penn State to its best season in years.
The Nittany Lions’ 76 wins during his four years are the most since joining the Big 10.
He went right into the starting lineup in college as a freshman and averaged double digits his first year. He is the No. 2 all-time scorer at Penn State and a two-time first team All-Big 10 selection.
He can score and is great at getting to the free throw line as he draws fouls in a Joel Embiid-like fashion. He is also a good rebounder and is a solid defender. Stevens is not a bad passer for a big man (2.2 assists a game) and was a fine shot blocker in college.
He also wrote a children’s geography book ‘Lamar’s Climb – A Journey to Happy Valley.’ that was given out at home games.
"“I can’t thank Lamar Stevens enough for what he’s meant to this program,” Penn State coach Pat Chambers said on a conference call a week after the tournaments were canceled, according to the Centre Daily Times. “Just incredible.”"
