The Suns grab the No. 2 prospect on my big board, and in the process grab a point guard to develop next to Devin Booker long term. The presence of a capable point guard in Ricky Rubio has dramatically improved Phoenix’s offense this season. If Hayes can capitalize on his potential, the Suns’ backcourt is set for the next decade.

Hayes is maybe the most exciting on-ball creator in this year’s draft. He can create his own shots comfortably on the perimeter — his smooth lefty step-back is sure to attract fans and scouts alike. As a playmaker, Hayes thrives in the pick-and-roll, manipulating defenses with his handles before spaying passes of every variety around the court.

He has the basic tenets of most star point guards in the NBA. He’s a deadly pull-up threat, a visionary passer, and a plus athlete at 6-foot-5. He will need to improve his productivity without the ball — especially next to Booker, who will frequently command the basketball — but from a talent perspective, this is an absolute steal.
