The Bulls are at a crossroads. A very complex, somewhat unsolvable crossroads spurred on by incompetent ownership and a toxic coach, who ownership will not remove due to financial “concerns,” because the Chicago Bulls are, in fact, the Chicago Bulls.
When you look at the roster, however, the bare bones of a playoff contender are there. It makes sense to add a prospect who can expedite Chicago’s competitive aspirations — a prospect who can help win games as a rookie. Tyrese Haliburton is one of the smartest, most polished players on the board. And though he’s a natural point guard, at 6-foot-5, Haliburton has enough size to squeeze into various lineup combinations.
Haliburton is a highly poised facilitator. He knows how to play within himself, and the result is typically high assist numbers and low turnover numbers. He doesn’t pose much of a scoring threat off the dribble, but he’s a potent spot-up shooter. Chicago has talented live-dribble creators a la Zach LaVine and Coby White who can help cover for Haliburton’s shortcomings.
