The Sixers look to even the series this evening.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ series-opening loss to Boston was a potential harbinger of things to come — turnover issues, poor execution, and a stark lack of depth. Even so, the Sixers had every chance to win that game, and a more controlled performance in Game 2 could lead to an important victory.

Despite all the bad we saw in Game 1, context is key. The Sixers were up 79-75 after three quarters, and for much of the night, Philadelphia was in full pursuit of victory. A late collapse — spurred by some of the Sixers’ aforementioned weaknesses — unfortunately did them in.

Alas, with Game 2 now on the horizon, there’s a chance for the Sixers to adjust. Personnel is still a major concern, and I remain hardwired in my belief that Boston will win this series, but it’s clear Philadelphia has a path to victory. A narrow path, maybe, but not an impassable one.

Joel Embiid understands the burden of superstardom. Tobias Harris can only get better. Josh Richardson and Matisse Thybulle will gladly take another crack at the Jayson Tatum-Kemba Walker duo. Maybe Al Horford will even show up.

When the Sixers and Celtics battle at 6:30 PM E.T. tonight, here’s what you should keep an eye on.
