The Wizards have some depth in the frontcourt already, but many consider Precious Achiuwa’s upside worthy of a top-10 pick. He’s the kind of mobile, freight-train athlete who could pair effectively next to Thomas Bryant or Moritz Wagner — both of whom stretch the floor.
In fact, Washington’s abundance of shooting should benefit Achiuwa, whose impact is mostly made in the painted area. Achiuwa is a formidable downhill athlete who can simply overpower smaller defenders. He will need to develop his touch and skill package, but the raw strength and athleticism at 6-foot-9 is impossible to ignore.
Washington will run, and Achiuwa fits best in an up-tempo system that will put him in the open court. On defense, he has immense potential as a weak-side rim protector. He can also move his feet on the perimeter. He’s not the most fundamentally sound defender at this stage in his development, but his potential is something to bank on.
