The general consensus seems to be coming around on the idea of Tyrell Terry as a first-round pick, just in time for Philadelphia to swoop in for the steal. For me, Terry is a top-10 prospect, and the fit here is too perfect — too blatantly necessary — to gloss over. If the Sixers find themselves in this position, Terry should stand out like a floodlight in the black of night.

While some are reasonably concerned about Terry’s small stature, he’s one of the most gifted shooters in this class. From any angle, from any distance, he’s money. He can shoot on the move, pull-up out of the pick-and-roll, or spot-up and benefit from the gravity of players like Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

The Sixers need another guard who can create off the dribble. They also need a guard who can fill the J.J. Redick void — a quick trigger shooter to throw into two-man actions with Embiid and stretch the defense out to the 3-point line. Terry could, very feasibly, end up in the starting five before the end of 2020-21. I’d like to think this pick is common sense, not wishful thinking.
