3 players that Brett Brown helped: Robert Covington

Robert Covington is arguably one of the best players to come out of the “The Prcoess”. Of course, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons were the ultimate stars that came as a result of multiple years of tanking, but Covington’s skills and contributions can’t be ignored.

After going undrafted, Covington played in the G-League and had a brief uneventful stint with the Houston Rockets before he was signed by Hinkie and the 76ers. Once in Philly, Covington went through a dramatic transformation under Brown

Brown sculpted the 6-foot-7 wing into one of the best 3-and-D players in the NBA. In four and a half seasons with the Sixers, Covington averaged 12.9 points and 1.6 steals, while shooting 35.9 percent from the floor.

Covington was the centerpiece of the trade that landed the 76ers All-Star Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Covington is currently back with the Rockets after being traded there from Minnesota.

Under Brown is where Covington became the player he is today. Brown maximized Covington’s initial skills and developed him to his full potential. Now he’s one of the better defenders in the NBA.
