One potential trade with each Southwest team: Houston Rockets

I recently wrote about how the Houston Rockets should want to trade for Horford now that Mike D’Antoni isn’t their head coach anymore. With that in mind, this hypothetical deal will be focused on landing Horford in Houston.

This isn’t the first time I have written on a potential deal sending Horford to the Rockets. However, the previous time I covered the subject, I had the Rockets in a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls. That won’t be the case this time.

That’s right, Robert Covington is coming back to the Philadelphia 76ers in this hypothetical trade. Covington’s a great 3-and-D player who has proven to be a good fit next to the Sixers core of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

Eric Gordon is a good 3-pointer and can create his own shot. The only red flag with Gordon is his injury history, but if it means getting off of Horford’s contract, the shooting guard should be worth the risk.

Besides Horford, sending Matisse Thybulle and the 21st pick to the Rockets is a necessary price to pay for what the Sixers are getting in return. Thybulle can take the place of an elite wing defender that Covington was for Houston. Sending the pick to the Rockets is because of Horford’s massive contract and for shipping Covington back to Philly.
